Key Findings

1.

Practically everybody sells wine online. Practically nobody provides a modern ecommerce experience.

89.5% of wineries offer ecommerce on their website, yet most stores lack modern shopping features such as rich product imagery, recommendations, or purchase incentives.

2.

Commerce7 is the clear wine commerce leader, but its closest competitor isn't even a wine platform.

Nearly 20% of all wineries on the west coast use Commerce7, but WooCommerce is close on its heels (15.8%), meaning many wineries have decided they can live without all the wine-specific features offered by C7 and other wine-specific tools.

3.

Winery websites are slow.

The median Lighthouse performance score across the West Coast is 56, with nearly 80% of sites scoring below 70. This goes beyond individual sites feeling slow, and reflects on the entire industry.

4.

Practically everybody is telling the same story.

Across the region, winery websites emphasize similar themes: quality, terroir, and family. While these values are genuine, their repetition creates an industry-wide pattern where many brands feel interchangeable to new audiences. Wineries wishing to cut through the noise need to examine how they share their values and tell their stories.
